How to find the Right Wooden Blinds for Every Room

Wood is one material that has an ever-lasting charm regardless of how and where it is used in an interior space, and if you decide to use wooden blinds in your home, you will never run short on choice. Wooden blinds are durable and look elegant and add a lot of functionality too. Its possible to find lightweight varieties of wooden blinds that have a beautiful grain and detailing. They provide insulation from heat and noise, shade the rooms very effectively and provide the privacy you need.

Design Upgrades

You will also find that even if you choose to have wooden blinds in all the rooms in your home, there are different styles and designs to choose from. In addition, you can opt for special design upgrades such as decorative valances, cordless operation, rounded corners and ladder tapes. If you so prefer, wooden blinds can also be paired with drapery of different kind. This adds a very unique look to the room and the blinds and drapes can be used individually or in combination as required.

For Family Rooms/ Bedrooms

These blinds are perfect for family rooms as well as in bedrooms or any other common areas in your home. They are highly-functional, have very clean lines and add warmth and coziness to a room. They look earthy as well as contemporary and will match any kind of décor in these rooms. Wooden blinds are particularly useful for bedroom spaces because they effectively block out the light. If you choose not to have blackout shades but still need added shade and privacy in the bedroom, wooden blinds are an ideal choice

Kitchens & Bathrooms

You can also add these to Kitchens and bathrooms and they look perfectly beautiful there too. Maintenance is easy and they are long-lasting which makes them the right choice for these spaces that see a lot of moisture and heat. Wooden blinds can be colored/stained as per your choice and you can also get customized styles and sizes for non-standard windows.

The Right Mix

Many blinds tend to have light leakage all around the route holes and closed slats. This is more prevalent in fabric blinds and shades. Wooden shades are more solid and provide added light control. However, as mentioned earlier, you can use a mix-and-match of wooden blinds and drapery for the right effect- in terms of shade, function and looks.

Ease of Maintenance

Wooden blinds are also very easy to maintain and you can simply vacuum clean them once in a while. Alternatively, they can be dusted with a dry cloth. As long as you maintain a regular cleaning routine with these blinds, they will last for years to come. The fact that you can choose slats of various widths is another plus for sure. You can also check on online stores for discounts on wooden blinds and save money as you go along. All-in-all, wooden blinds are a great option for any room in your home.

Real Wood or Faux Wood Blinds: The Pros and Cons of Each

Wood and faux wood blinds add an air of elegance to your home that is lacking from their aluminum counterparts.  With options for larger slats and no hole privacy, you can use the same blind to bathe the room in maximum natural light during the day, and accomplish complete privacy during the evening.  The choice between real wood and faux comes down to a few factors to consider, your personal taste, and which will better meet the needs of your family.

Wood blinds are cut from real wood, raising the level of warmth and sophistication in the room.  Despite them being a natural product, there are still many color and stain options to choose from to help complement the décor of the space while allowing the look of the real wood to still stand out.  They are lightweight, making them easy to raise into position plus you can usually order them in larger widths to accommodate big windows.

One of the nicer options that wood blinds offers is the no hole privacy.  Instead of small holes in the wood for stringing the blinds there are notches that hold them into place.  Less light is able to enter the room when the blinds are closed, plus they are easier to clean since each slat can be removed.

If you do like the look of the wood blinds keep in mind that they can warp and break.  High moisture will make them warp prematurely, so these are not an ideal option for bathrooms and kitchens.

Faux wood blinds offer almost all of the same advantages as real wood except that they are made from manmade materials making them less expensive.  There is also more color options available and they are more durable, not subject to warping like natural wood.  With faux wood blinds there is no need to worry about using a special cleaning agent, any kind will do, and they also come with the no hole option making cleaning them even easier.   If you custom order faux wood blinds from a reputable on-line dealer, it will be very difficult for visitors to your home to guess that they are not made from real wood.

If you are considering faux wood blinds for a larger window, you will probably have to use multiple sets of blinds on one head rail.  Faux wood is heavier than real wood and you will have a difficult time raising and lowering the blinds if they are too wide.  Faux wood blinds in lighter colors may also discolor from sunlight after a couple of years, so be sure to talk to your dealer about the longevity of the finish. You will want to hear that the UV rating is high.  A number in the 400 to 500 range means that the blinds will be able to retain their color, even when exposed to direct sunlight.

Improvements in the way faux wood blinds look and hold up make choosing difficult.  In the end it just may come down to finding the one that comes in the right colors to fit your style.
